In this lifetime I want to feel fulfilled and make a difference with my time. Do you find yourself having these same thoughts and / or feelings? If you do, I’d like to share my story and tell you of a place I found that provides this fulfillment; it’s St. Vincent de Paul Parish. I grew up in a devout Catholic household back in New England with my family going to church every Sunday. I had a grandmother that believed one day one of her grandsons would become the first priest of the family. While my devout Catholic upbringing instilled many strong Christian values, I continued to find myself as a young adult in my mid 20’s and 30’s searching for something greater and more fulfilling in my life.
My work relocated me to several different cities on the East coast and eventually led me to the Midwest in 1996. While relocating to several cities as a young adult, I continued to search for parishes where I would be spiritually awakened, feel welcomed with a sense of belonging, and become part of a community. In addition, I wanted to feel connected with the pastoral staff and parishioners, and wanted to participate in meaningful
parish activities. While the journey was lengthy, I fortunately found a home in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, where spending time has made a significant impact in my life.
I would like to share some of the dynamic characteristics that drew me to St. Vincent de Paul Parish. The liturgical celebrations are uplifting and inspiring, primarily focusing on...

...how we can be more Christ-like in our daily lives. Fellow parishioners are friendly and greet you with a smile. There’s also an abundance of opportunities to participate in as a lay parishioner. They range from being a lector, Eucharistic minister, usher / greeter, or choir member at the Mass services, to being an active member of a Commission or a volunteer in one of the many Parish sponsored Outreach programs. These are just a few examples of why St. Vincent de Paul Parish is a parish where your time is not only self-fulfilling but also provides an opportunity to reach out to those in the community who need our help.
I recently heard a homily that mentioned one of the most precious gifts God bestowed upon us was the freedom to make choices in our daily lives. I strongly believe one of the better decisions made in my life was the decision to become a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Not only has this decision made a difference in my life, but I am also hopeful I have made a difference in other people’s lives through parishioner relationships, lay leadership positions, and the various outreach programs. With the New Year quickly upon us, I encourage those of you who may be like I was many years ago, still searching for a parish and looking for self-fulfillment, to make your time count as a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Parish. You will not only be making a difference in your own life, but as well as the lives of people in your community.
