Baptism
Parish registration is required in order to celebrate the sacrament of Baptism for
infants at St. Vincent’s. Baptisms for infants are celebrated communally on
the fourth Sunday of each month at 11:30 AM. A required preparation session
for parents and godparents is held each third Thursday of the month
at 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. Please call the pastor at least six weeks prior to
the desired month.
Please do not use the parish email address for these matters.
Adult Confirmation / Becoming a Catholic (RCIA)
For those who
never received the Sacrament of Confirmation and for those who grew up in other faith
traditions but would now like to join the Catholic Church, the RCIA process begins at St.
Vincent's in October of each year. Meeting weekly, the participants receive the
information and preparation they need in order to complete their initiation into the
Church, which occurs at the celebration of the Easter Vigil (the night before Easter
Sunday).
Please see the RCIA page for complete information.
Reconciliation
Saturday afternoons, 4:15 PM to 4:50 PM in the Reconciliation Room in
the church (just south of the Sheffield entrance), or please call
the Parish Center for an appointment.
St. Vincent's also holds reconciliation services during Advent and
Lent. During these services, those gathered together celebrate the
wonderful gift of God's mercy with song,
Scripture, reflection, and an examination of conscience. Several
of the Vincentian priests who celebrate mass with us are present
to hear individual confessions.
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE, CONVERSION, CONFESSION, FORGIVENESS, RECONCILIATION --
Which one is it? It's all of these! The official title for the
sacrament in the Catechism of the Catholic Church is
"The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation," but each
of the titles helps us understand the sacrament.
It is called the sacrament of penance, since it
consecrates the Christian sinner's personal and ecclesial steps of
conversion, penance, and satisfaction.
It is called the sacrament of conversion, because it
makes sacramentally present Jesus' call to conversion, the first
step in returning to the Father from whom one has strayed by sin.
It is called the sacrament of confession, since the
disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential
element of this sacrament. In a profound sense it is also a
"confession" — acknowledgement and praise — of the
holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man.
It is called the sacrament of forgiveness, since by the
priest's sacramental absolution God grants the penitent
"pardon and peace."
It is called the sacrament of reconciliation, because it
imparts to the sinner the life of God who reconciles: "Be
reconciled to God." He who lives by God's merciful love is
ready to respond to the Lord's call: "Go; first be reconciled
to your brother." (Taken from the Catechism of the
Catholic Church)
Anointing of the Sick
To receive the sacrament for yourself, or to arrange for a family
member or friend to receive the sacrament of Anointing, please
contact the pastor anytime at the Parish Center (773) 325-8610.
Marriage
Please call Fr. Pat Harrity at the Parish Center (773) 325-8610 to discuss
the celebration of the
sacrament of marriage at St. Vincent’s. If you are a parishioner celebrating your
marriage in another parish, call Fr. Pat Harrity for marriage preparation and prenuptial
paperwork matters. Please do not use the parish email address for these matters.
For Baptized Catholics, the proper and valid form of receiving the sacrament of
marriage is within a Catholic Church in the presence of a Catholic priest or deacon. The
first item to plan is that of reserving a date and time at the Parish.
In order to celebrate the sacrament of marriage at St. Vincent’s,
parish registration is required for a period of four
months prior to discussing a wedding date.
Weddings at St. Vincent’s are celebrated on
Saturdays only at 1:00 PM or 3:00 PM. Weddings are not celebrated on Fridays, Sundays,
weekdays, during the season of Lent, Holy Week, or Saturday’s that conflict with other
Parish events. Requests for particular Saturdays cannot always be accommodated.
In a sense of fairness and justice to our registered and active parishioners, a
"wedding on demand" policy cannot be allowed for non-parishioners, this includes
DePaul University Alumni. The pastor at St. Vincent’s makes all reservations
for weddings. To avoid confusion and misinformation, no other staff member is
permitted to be involved in the process of looking at wedding dates, setting wedding
dates, or giving out information about the process as a whole.
