The Greater Chicago Food Depository's Annual Hunger Walk is a major event that raises funds to help the 650 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in our community that the Depository supports.

This year's walk begins at Soldier Field's Stadium Green and heads south along the lakefront to 31st Street, then returns north to Soldier Field. Walkers will enjoy kid-friendly activities, refreshments and live entertainment.

The Outreach Commission is looking for walkers and sponsors for the St. Vincent's contingent of this 5k (3.5 mile) walk, which directly benefits our Seton Food Pantry. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow parishioners and to join together for a wonderful cause!

Each dollar donated to the St. Vincent de Paul team goes directly to our Pantry fund to purchase food from the Food Depository, which we then distribute each Tuesday to our Pantry patrons and families. Just how far can a small donation go? $2.50 can feed a family of 4 breakfast, lunch and dinner.

This year we need 50 walkers to meet our minimum goal (and to raise $4000.00.) The Hunger Walk is the Outreach Commission’s only fundraiser for the year, and provides a significant portion of the food required to support our yearly needs at the pantry.

All walkers must submit a completed 2011 Registration Form (PDF) on the day of the walk. Children are welcome and will be counted as walkers, but parents must provide for their safety and mobility, by providing strollers, carriers, etc.

The St. Vincent Team will gather at 8:00 a.m., before the walk begins, at Point "B" (Balloon) on the 2011 Soldier Field Site Map (PDF), which is just east of the registration tables. If you arrive after 8:00 a.m., a team leader will stay at Point "B" to meet you and join you on the walk.

If you cannot join us for the walk, we need your support as a sponsor for those who will be participating. For walkers and sponsors, the 2011 Pledge Form is available as a printable PDF file.

Also, walkers, sponsors, parishioners and friends can make monetary donations directly to the Parish Team's effort by visiting the St. Vincent's Direct Donation Page on the Food Depository's web-site.

Red, Orange, and Green Lines to Roosevelt stop. Walk west and take the Roosevelt and State Bus #146 to Soldier Field/Field Museum stop. Walk South to Stadium Green, Soldier Field.

Exit 18th Drive stop and walk on pedestrian underpass to Soldier Field.

Take I-55, the Stevenson Expressway, northbound to Lake Shore Drive/Highway 41 North. Take LSD north to the 18th Drive exit.

Take I-90/94, the Dan Ryan Expressway, north to the Lake Shore Drive/22nd street exit. Stay to the right and exit to LSD. Take LSD/Highway 41 north to the 18th Drive exit.

South Lot (18th Drive exit off of Lake Shore Drive). FREE, first come, first serve. Once the lot is full, you will be directed to the Waldron Deck.
