Overview
The Parish of St. Vincent de Paul has a proud, century-long tradition
of making fine music.
As generations of people continue to raise their voices in song each week,
the music itself serves as an offering of praise and thanksgiving to God.
Our parish ministry serves to inspire and uplift these voices,
providing a program as diverse as its people.
At St. Vincent's, music for worship spans the entire treasury of the Church's repertoire,
from Medieval chant and Renaissance motets to the most contemporary literature.
Musical leadership at all principle Masses is provided by the choir and cantors --
both trained professionals and amateurs alike.
These voices unite with pipe organ and other instruments in the vibrant acoustic of St.
Vincent, making music an exciting worship experience.
This ministry is continually seeking new members.
If you play an instrument or have a pleasant singing voice,
please consider one of our many music-making opportunities.
St. Vincent Chamber Chorale
Would you like to explore the rich choral tradition of our Church?
As a member of The St. Vincent Chamber Chorale you’ll receive solid musical training,
perfecting such skills as sight reading, ensemble singing, and basic music theory.
All while learning works from our Church’s treasury of sacred music.
Of course the fun that is shared while praising God is by far the greatest of these rewards!
The St. Vincent Chamber Chorale regularly sings the 10:00 a.m. liturgy
on Sunday mornings at St. Vincent.
We welcome new members throughout the year.
If you’ve ever considered being part of The Chamber Chorale,
please call the music office at (773)325-8610 and learn how you can get involved.
We’d love to hear from you!
St. Vincent Ensemble
Are you a violinist, cellist, or clarinetist?
The St. Vincent Ensemble needs your special gifts!
The St. Vincent Ensemble is a contemporary ensemble that
leads worship at the 5:00 p.m. Sunday Mass.
We rehearse before Mass for an hour.
We welcome members of varied skill levels throughout the year.
Contact our director, John Kerr, via the parish office or at
stvincentensemble@gmail.com
for more information.
Cantors
Cantors provide musical leadership at all principle parish liturgies
including weekends, Holy Days, and other major celebrations.
Cantors are selected by audition only.
Instrumentalists
In addition to the St. Vincent Ensemble, instrumentalists are used
at various Masses for special occasions.
The music office maintains a roster of available musicians for needs as they arise.
The Lyon & Healy Pipe Organ
In November 1901, fine music first came to St. Vincent de Paul Parish with the
arrival of a new pipe organ installed by the Lyon & Healy Company of Chicago.
Today the organ sounds much as it did at the turn of the century and
remains a classic example of a Romantic, American organ.
The organ has 56 ranks, numbering 2,913 pipes that are distributed
over swell, great and choir divisions.
Many unique orchestral stops such as the bell clarinet and nine ranks of
strings contribute to the grand symphonic tonality of the instrument.
